چکیده

The gyrokinetic toroidal code (GTC) capability has been extended for simulating internal kink instability with kinetic effects in toroidal geometry. The global simulation domain covers the magnetic axis, which is necessary for simulating current-driven instabilities. GTC simulation in the fluid limit of the kink modes in cylindrical geometry is verified by benchmarking with a magnetohydrodynamic eigenvalue code. Gyrokinetic simulations of the kink modes in the toroidal geometry find that ion kinetic effects significantly reduce the growth rate even when the banana orbit width is much smaller than the radial width of the perturbed current layer at the mode rational surface. Gyrokinetic simulation model for kinetic magnetohydrodynamic processes in magnetized plasmas

A nonlinear gyrokinetic simulation model incorporating equilibrium current has been formulated for studying kinetic magnetohydrodynamic processes in magnetized plasmas. This complete formulation enables gyrokinetic simulation of both pressure-gradient-driven and current-driven instabilities as well as their nonlinear interactions in multiscale simulations. The gyrokinetic simulation model recov...

Global Hybrid Simulations of Energetic Particle Effects on the n=1 Mode in Tokamaks: Internal Kink and Fishbone Instability

Global hybrid simulations of energetic particle effects on the n=1 internal kink mode have been carried out for tokamaks. For the Internationa Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) [ITER Physics Basis Editors et al, Nucl. Fusion 3 ̄ 9, 2137 (1999).], it is shown that alpha particle effects are stabilizing for the internal kink mode. However, the elongation of ITER reduces the stabilization e...

Gyrokinetic Simulation of Tokamak Edge Plasmas

It has been recently discovered that the trapped electron mode (TEM) may play an important role in the H mode edge plasma for domestic tokamaks such as EAST and HL-2A. The stability and transport for TEM for the edge parameters are studied using large scale gyrokinetic particle simulations. The gyrokinetic simulation reveals the parametric dependences on the wavelength and collisionality. The b...
